Everybody Wins
It is estimated that 50,000 animals were left behind in New Orleans after the recent hurricanes and animal shelters all along the Gulf Coast have more pets than they can care for. At least two prisons have taken in animals to rehab before finding new homes or being returned to owners.
Everyone wins. The animals receive an abundance of attention and care. Humane Societies receive help. Inmates feel they are contributing to the storm victims and improve their self-images. Prisons improve through better inmate behavior and attitudes. And the rest of us? Our hearts swell with the knowledge that everyone wins.

An excellent idea. I mentioned that in a paper I wrote about breed specific legislation - http://webpages.charter.net/rottsrus/bsl.htm
